Anchorage, Alaska - My wife and I went to Alaska in August, 2006 and had a great time.  We went on numerous day trips and saw many different towns in Alaska including Anchorage, Seward, Whittier, Portage, Palmer, and Wasilla.  We saw lots of wildlife including bears (brown and black), caribou, eagles and other raptors, elk, moose, otters, sea lions and whales.  We also had an interesting time at a bed and breakfast.  Travel home turned out to be better than the travel there, surprising because the new security restrictions regarding liquids took effect while we were in Alaska.  This is just a small sampling of the ~850 pictures that we took.

Assateague, Maryland - I’ve been to Assateague several times, mainly just to hang out on the beach and watch my friends surf.  Here’s some pictures.

Backyard Fauna - OK, so not every single one of these pictures was taken in my backyard, but everything seen in this gallery has been taken around the house or inside of it.  I’ve managed to get pictures of almost all of the creatures that pay the area a visit, but I never got a picture of the raccoon that likes to break into the garbage can and steal trash (but I did see him sneaking up one time), and I never got a picture of the field mice or moles that live in the area, although I’ve seen those as well.  I’m willing to bet there’s an opossum that pays a visit from time to time as well.

Backyard Flora - The items pictured in this gallery aren’t native to the region, obviously, but are still located in the back or front yard and seem to be photogenic.

Bahamas - In December, 2007, we went on a short cruise to the Bahamas with my parents when we visited them down in Florida.  We had plenty of fun.

Blizzard of 2009 - The Blizzard of 2009 dumped 16 inches of snow at my place and 18-22 inches in my immediate area.  This historic early-season storm also featured wind gusts to 35mph in my area.  These are photos taken at my place during and after the storm as well photos from a hike at Gunpowder Falls the following day after I got done shoveling.

Blizzards of 2010 - The Blizzards of 2010 were two ferocious and unprecedented storms that dumped an average of four feet of snow across the Baltimore area within a period of six days. The first storm struck from February 5-6, 2010 and was named Snowmageddon by many. This storm featured thundersnow and blizzard-force winds throughout the early morning hours of February 6 and it is arguable that the storm’s precipitation output was three feet of snow that was compressed into two feet.

The second storm struck from February 9-10, 2010 and featured convective snow bands with winds that were even worse than the previous blizzard. This storm was named Snoverkill by many and some meteorologists compared the storm to a Category 1 hurricane with snow instead of rain. The storms came in the same winter as a blizzard that struck in December, 2009 (named Snopocalypse by many) and smashed the all-time record snow for a season in Baltimore. The two storms also placed Baltimore as the number 1 snowiest city in America at the time the snow ended.

Colorado Springs, Colorado - In August of 2005, my wife and I went to Colorado for a few days to check it out since we had never been there.  We stayed in Colorado Springs and went to the Garden of the Gods, the Florissant Fossil Beds, the Cave of the Winds, the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, the Royal Gorge, and Pikes Peak, among other places.

Cooperstown, New York - Visiting the Cooperstown, New York area, on the south side of Lake Otsego in central New York State, was interesting and fun.   Cooperstown is probably small enough that spending a weekend there is enough to see and do everything you desire if you live in the Northeastern United States or could be visited as part of a larger vacation to the New York State area.

Gunpowder Falls, Maryland - A section of Gunpowder Falls State Park in Maryland is a cool place to hike for a little bit.  Some hiking trails follow Gunpowder Falls, while others go back into tributary creeks as well as up the hills nearby.  We go there fairly often and I’ve taken my camera along with me a few times to see if I can snap a photo or two.

Las Vegas, Nevada - We visited Las Vegas, Nevada for a friend’s wedding in April, 2006.  We stayed at the Flamingo while the wedding was across the street at Caesar’s.  We also saw the Hoover Dam while we were in the area.

Maui, Hawaii - We went on our honeymoon to Maui, Hawaii in October of 2002.  We had a great time going to the beach, snorkeling, going spelunking in a lava tube, biking down Haleakala, and visiting Haleakala’s crater.  The only the exception was the road to Hana, which has to be some sort of conspiracy among marketers to get people to go to Hana.  Be warned that the amount of switchbacks on the drive is throw-up worthy even for moderately strong stomachs and when you get to Hana, there is a hotel, a museum that resides in a single-room shack that asks for your money, and that’s it (unless things have changed, but I kind of doubt it).

New York, New York - I’ve been to New York, NY several times.  The first was on September 30, 2001 (not too long after 9/11) to see what was supposed to have been Cal Ripken’s last game, but turned out to simply be his last game at Yankee Stadium.  Other times it was to see my brother in law.  My most recent trip was to a friend’s wedding.

Orange County, California - I’ve flown into John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA three times for customer work and the third time I had to go, I suspected I may not be going again anytime soon.  So, I took the opportunity to take a day off and do some hiking and take some pictures, since I had not been able to see anything on the previous two trips.  I believe the majority of these photos came from Crystal Cove State Park, though I can’t be certain about that.

Outer Banks, North Carolina - I’ve tried to go to the Outer Banks once a year since 2000.  That hasn’t always happened, but I’ve been there quite a few times the past decade and have been able to take some decent photos while on the trips.  While there’s a bunch of sunset photos intermixed, the best ones are towards the end of the gallery.

Poconos, PA - We went to the Poconos arriving there on October 16, 2009 and departing on October 18. We stayed at the Chateau Resort and Conference Center at Camelback in Tannersville, PA. When we originally thought about scheduling the trip to the Poconos, we were thinking it would be nice fall weather – probably sunny and temperatures in the 50s up there, maybe 60 degrees. We figured this would allow for some good viewing of the fall foliage, among other activities. The first thing to note was that when we arrived, it was cloudy with several inches of wet snow on the ground and more was on its way. This was not unexpected because I had been keeping track of the forecast and it looked as though the Poconos could have received several inches of snow that Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. In fact, it was their earliest significant snowfall since record keeping began in 1836.

Rocky Mountains - In January of 2010, I visited some friends that were in Winter Park skiing and took some photos while in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  Many of the photos are from Rocky Mountain National Park, some are from the Lake Granby area and others are from the Fraser/Winter Park area and Idaho Springs.  The most exciting thing I saw was a moose, of which I took plenty of pictures.

Skyline Drive, Virginia - We’ve been to the Skyline Drive are a couple times, as my parents have taken some summer vacations in the area.  We’ve seen some cool stuff on some hikes and even saw a black bear and her two cubs on the side of the road.

Swallow Falls, Maryland - We did some camping in a cabin in the Swallow Falls area for a few days in 2008 and hiked and visited other parts of western Maryland during the daytime hours.

United Kingdom - I went to the United Kingdom (for the most part I was in Nottingham) in June of 2004.  It was for business and I had a great time, especially on a weekend off where I got to go around Nottingham and see the sights.  I ended my trip in the London area but unfortunately didn’t get to see anything except the areas around both of the airports (Gatwick and Heathrow).

Weather - I’ve tried to photograph weather events over the years and this is a gallery containing some of those photos.  In here you’ll find rain, snow, thunderstorm, and rainbow photos, among others.  The gallery goes in chronological order.
